MPM1D3 - Principles of Mathematics, Grade 9, Pre-AP

This course enables students to develop an understanding of mathematical concepts related to algebra, analytic geometry, and measurement and geometry through investigation, the effective use of technology, and abstract reasoning. Students will investigate relationships, which they will then generalize as equations of lines, and will determine the connections between different representations of a linear relation. They will also explore relationships that emerge from the measurement of three-dimensional figures and two-dimensional shapes. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

MPM1D3 Pre-AP is different from MPM1D1 Academic-Level in that the focus will be more of an inquiry approach. Students will be encouraged to build their math tool kit and come up with different solutions to problems. There will be a focus on the application of math skills in the students' environment. Students will be exposed to higher level problems, but will be assessed on the same material as the regular academic program.

Prerequisite: 80% in all math strands (Number Sense and Numeration, Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Patterning and Algebra, Data Management and Probability) in Grade 8 Mathematics and approval of Pre-AP Application.
