MPM2D3 - Principles of Mathematics, Grade 10, Pre-AP

This course enables students to broaden their understanding of relationships and extend their problem-solving and algebraic skills through investigation, the effective use of technology, and abstract reasoning. Students will explore quadratic relations and their applications; solve and apply linear systems; verify properties of geometric figures using analytic geometry; and investigate the trigonometry of right and acute triangles. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

MPM2D3 Pre-AP is different from MPM2D1 Academic-Level in that the focus will be more of an inquiry approach. Students will be encouraged to build their math tool kit and come up with different solutions to problems. There will be a focus on the application of math skills in the students' environment. Students will be exposed to higher level problems, but will be assessed on the same material as the regular academic program.

Prerequisite: 80% or above in Grade 9 Mathematics, Academic-Level (MPM1D1) and approval of Pre-AP Application. 75% or above in Grade 9 Mathematics, Pre-AP (MPM1D3).
