MCR3U3 |

This course introduces the mathematical concept of the function by extending students' experiences with linear and quadratic relations. Students will investigate properties of discrete and continuous functions, including trigonometric, exponential functions and logarithmic functions; represent functions numerically, algebraically, and graphically; solve problems involving applications of functions; investigate inverse functions; and develop facility in determining equivalent algebraic expressions. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems. MCR3U3 Pre-AP is different from MCR3U1 University-Preparation in that Functions Pre AP is designed for the student who has already learned some of the major concepts and processes of functions 11 but seeks a deeper and broader understanding of the discipline. This course integrates the advanced elements of algebra with technology, problem-solving, application and mathematical modeling. As well, this course is designed to further develop the student's reasoning skills, with an emphasis on logic that is central to student achievement in upper level mathematics courses. Prerequisite: 80% or above in Grade 10 Principles of Mathematics, Academic (MPM2D1) and approval of Pre-AP Application. 75% or above in Grade 10 Priniciples of Mathematics, Pre-AP (MPM2D3). |
